Botanica Tower was developed by Select Group. It was launched in 2004 but, due to some slight interference by the financial crash of 2008, was not completed until 2012. Residents and owners there certainly think the wait was worth it. There are some awesome views from many of the apartments in this luxury tower.

At 40 floors and 182 metres /  597 feet it’s no monster by Dubai Marina standards but Botanica still comes with a healthy 378 apartments. Studios, 1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms rule the roost here. Want a nice walk? Take your pick between JBR walk and the Dubai Marina Promenade. Botanica enjoys great access to both.

Facilities include 24 hours front desk and security, a children’s pool as well as the regular swimming pool, a communal Jacuzzi, and much more.


Marina Arcade

Marina Arcade is one of those tower blocks that took a few years to complete. Unfortunately for the developers, Mada’in Properties, they started work in 2007 and of course the Financial Crash the following year rather put a damper on progress. But, they picked themselves up and finished this impressive luxury tower  in 2017 with a handover of the 264 apartments to their owners shortly thereafter.

Marina Arcade is a 64 floor residential tower and stands at 268 meters / 879 feet. Apartments come in 1, 2 and 3 bedroom variations. Views from many of the apartments are spectacular, taking in the open sea over the top of JBR and the beaches.

Facilities include a 24 hour front desk and security, Gym and Health Club, swimming pool, tennis courts and much more.

Cayan Tower

This stunning, twisting, turning mega-tower is one of the most distinctive architectural masterpieces in Dubai Marina. It’s not the tallest, at “just” 80 floors but it seems to dominate with its unconventional and striking shape. It’s a tower that got built in short order too….it was started in 2006 and handed over to its owners in 2008, just in time to beat the financial crash. 

Height, 306m / 1004ft, developer Cayan Property Development, it’s considered a High End tower with 492 luxury apartments. There are 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom units available. Brilliant views of the sea and marina abound.

The usual standard Dubai Marina facilities can be found in Cayan Tower: Gym/Health Club (although an evening jog/walk around the Dubai Marina Promenade surely has to be one of the most amazing routes in the entire Middle East), 24 Hour front desk and security, key card access, outdoor pool, kid’s playroom/play area, nursery / day care center and much more. Marina Pinnacle

Marina Pinnacle was developed by Tiger Properties. It was started in 2004 but the financial crash of 2008 meant that it took until 2011 to complete. At 73 floors and 280 metres / 918 feet tall it’s not out of place among the other super-towers of the Dubai Marina area.

There are 748 apartments of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom varieties. Marina Pinnacle is a GREAT place to invest if you’re keen to live in Dubai Marina but don’t quite have the budget that some of the other buildings demand. For example, you can get a 2 bedroom 1300 square foot apartment in Pinnacle for well under AED 1 million. Because it’s in Dubai Marina, rental returns vs. the price of the apartments make a purchase at Marina Pinnacle a very viable investment with returns of 8 – 9 percent highly attainable.

Facilities at Marina Pinnacle include the ubiquitous gym and health club, swimming pool, multi-purpose room and much more. Apartment owners like that their service fee includes chiller fees.








Princess Tower

Standing at a dizzying 404 metres / 1325 feet tall, Princess Tower is the 2nd tallest residential-only building in the world. It has 101 floors and a fantastic range of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments as well as the mandatory (for Dubai) massive and opulent penthouses. In all their are763 residential units. The Developer was Tameer. It was completed in 2012.

There are some pretty impressive amenities at the Princess Tower. They include a 24 hour front desk and security, children’s playroom and play area, the usual gym and health club, a high end lobby to add to the feeling of luxury, a multi-purpose room, on-site maintenance (very important!), a sauna and of course a swimming pool.

Mall Of The Sizzling Cow Plate

I took a stroll round Bur Dubai a few days ago. In among the hotels, grocery shops, mobile phone shops, pharmacies, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, laundries and open air markets was a tiny little air-conditioned shopping mall with a little food court. And, in that food court was a little Chinese food outlet. And, what they served me was fabulous, both times I went there.

An Evening Walk Around Dubai Marina

A couple of nights ago I walked, jogged and crawled around the Dubai Marina Promenade. All of it. I wore shorts, a tee shirt and trainers. Well before my excursion ended I was dripping with perspiration. We are, after all, in the midst of the Dubai Summer when night time temperatures seldom get much below 32°C (90°F). Through my sweat-soaked glasses the incredible architecture and amazing lighting of the Marina made for a wonderful journey.

The Dubai Promenade makes for a brilliant walk.

Dubai’s Most Expensive Currently Listed Apartment!

If you’re reading this I trust you have a few million Euros, Dirhams, Pounds or Dollars sitting around in your petty cash jar. This post discusses the most expensive currently listed apartment in all of Dubai. I think you should buy it.  If I could afford it I’d probably buy it. After all, what’s more interesting: a giant pile of cash or a chance to own the tallest penthouse apartment in the World’s Tallest Building? I mean, I’d also buy it because the views are AMAZING….what a place to live!

Dubai is probably the world’s fastest growing city.

The rate of expansion and growth seen in Dubai over the last 10 years has been something incredible to behold. Towns and cities can grow quickly but with nothing like the combination of sheer speed and size and organisation and planning foresight that Dubai boasts. A Couple of Dubai Myths Debunked

Dubai really is quite a cosmopolitan city and by Muslim standards is remarkably liberal and easy going. That said, I remember before my first trip to Dubai reading all about the city’s policies on hand-holding in public (I read you couldn’t) and Metro travel (I read that men and women must travel separately). Happily both of those “rules” are myths. Here’s the Scoop!

  1. COUPLES CANNOT HOLD HANDS IN PUBLIC:  I’ve seen lots of couples, including Muslims in fairly conservative and traditional Muslim garb, holding hands in Dubai shopping malls. But, that’s as much affection as I’ve seen between a man and a woman in public. No smooching, snogging, fondling or any other PG13 or above signs of affection are allowed in busy public areas.
This is quite common in Dubai.
  1. WOMEN AND MEN MUST RIDE IN SEPARATE METRO TRAIN CARS:  Again, completely untrue. There is a single “Women and Children only” carriage on every Dubai Metro train. However, women and children don’t have to use it. They can travel anywhere on the train. But, men must STRICTLY not enter the Women and Children only carriage. So, if you’re a Western woman and would like a break from wandering male eyes, simply travel in the Women and Kids only carriage.
